Elijah McKenzie-Jackson, alongside WaicUp.org, co-organized with Youth for Climate Belgium the first-ever civil disobedience action inside the European Parliament in history. This unprecedented demonstration took place just one week before a decisive vote that would shape the EU's climate policies for the next five years.
The action followed Elijah’s address to MEPs in the parliamentary speaking hall, where he called for intersectional climate justice and stronger climate commitments. During his address to policymakers, Elijah emphasized the urgent need for stronger climate commitments, warning that the current level of ambition from the incoming European Commission was insufficient to meet the scale of the crisis. He called on decision-makers to ensure climate guarantees were firmly in place before the vote on the installation of the new Commission.
Immediately after his speech, all youth present walked out in protest, sending a powerful message that young people will not accept weak climate policies that endanger their future.
In addition to leading the demonstration, Elijah met with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to discuss the need for climate guarantees before the installation of the new European Commission. His message was clear—climate ambition must match the urgency of the crisis.
"We are running out of time for empty promises. Young people across Europe demand real action, not weak commitments. This is not just about the policies of today but about securing a livable future for generations to come." — Elijah McKenzie-Jackson
